Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille on Penalties to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now secured the prestigious trophy on fourteen separate times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the match between the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the net in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side fired two times late to take a surprise advantage. First, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital leveler in the final moments to force the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for PSG to complete a convincing shootout victory.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
