Local Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Police report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a swastika, they stated.
Officers then discovered multiple other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state preliminary tests indicate the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to its source; investigators are presently not informed of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they added.
City officials stated they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have requested to the public for information.
A senior representative stated the attack left him speechless and required to be solved rapidly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, recalling the death of nine victims by a assailant targeting individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
